The deceased has been identified by the police as Ranjit Bordoloi.
"The five accused persons have been booked for various offences, including murder, under the IPC. They will be forwarded to jail after due procedure," Paban Kalita, OC of Samaguri police station, said.
He said a kangaroo court was held on Saturday where the victim, Ranjit, was tried on the allegation that he along with four others had killed one Sabita Pator, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the village the day before. "He was found guilty of the woman's alleged murder in the people's court. However, nobody has lodged any complaint with the police regarding the death of Sabita Pator to date," the OC said.
Mukul, son of the deceased, said his father Ranjit was first tied to a tree and beaten black and blue before being burnt alive and buried before him.
