Guwahati: The BJP-led alliance is targeting 12-plus seats in
Assam in the Lok Sabha elections to be held early next year and the alleged resentment among a few leaders and workers over various issues will not obstruct the path from achieving the goal, BJP’s state president Bhabesh Kalita said on Monday.
He said the party is working on strengthening the base and the roadmap to win 12-plus out of 14 LS seats in Assam.
However, he added that the decision on seat sharing with its allies will be taken by the national committee.
On former Union minister Rajen Gohain’s resignation from the Cabinet rank showing resentment towards delimitation, Kalita said: “The party has given him a lot. He served as an MP for four times. So, I think there is nothing to get disappointed about,” he added.
Gohain resigned on August 18 as a protest against the delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in Assam. He represented the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat four times from 1999 until the 2019 polls. He was unhappy with the reshaping of his constituency, which he said would benefit the “other political party” without specifying which.
Moreover, Kalita said there is no resentment among the party workers anywhere. “The party has a wide acceptance. If there is any resentment as alleged, it will not harm as people understand everything and will definitely choose the path of development,” he added.
