Dibrugarh: In a boost to Dibrugarh's urban infrastructure, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday evening inaugurated two major flyovers, marking a crucial step in decongesting the city.
The newly opened flyovers — Bagmibor Nilmoni Phukan Uroniya Setu at Thana Chariali and Dr Lila Gogoi Uroniya Setu at Convoy Road — are expected to streamline traffic flow and enhance connectivity in the bustling city.
Amid cheers from hundreds of residents, the CM walked down the decorated flyovers, interacting with citizens and expressing his vision for Dibrugarh's transformation.
"Today marks a historic moment in Dibrugarh's journey toward becoming a modern urban center. These two flyovers are just the beginning of our comprehensive plan to transform Dibrugarh into a major metropolis. These flyovers are symbols of progress, paying tribute to two great souls who shaped Assam's cultural and intellectual legacy," Sarma said.
Highlighting govt's commitment to Dibrugarh's development, Sarma announced that construction on four additional flyovers will begin soon. On Jan 26, he laid the foundation stones for these projects, collectively valued at Rs 376 crore.
The upcoming projects include the Amolapatty Junction flyover, which at 1.47 km will be the city's longest, with a budget of Rs 158 crore. Other planned structures include the Lahowal-Bordubi-Tinsukia Road connecting flyover at the NH-37 junction (1.48 km, Rs 72 crore), the Mancotta Road flyover (814 metres, Rs 84 crore), and the Lezai-Kalakhowa road flyover (651 metres, Rs 62 crore).Dibrugarh MLA and state power minister Prasanta Phukan said, "These two key flyovers will not only ease traffic congestion but also catalyse economic growth and improve the quality of life for our citizens."
