Assam: Man gets RI for life for raping 10-yr-old

GUWAHATI: A special court for trial of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases in lower Assam’s Dhubri district convicted a 27-year-old man for raping a 10-year-old girl in the district in 2020 and sentenced him with rigorous imprisonment for life.
The additional sessions-judge-cum-special judge, POCSO, Poli Kataki, passed an order on Monday convicting Debesh Biswas, who had sexually assaulted the victim on January 19, 2020 while she had gone to collect clothes that were spread on the terrace.
According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s family at the Dhubri police station, Biswas had gagged her mouth and threatened her with dire consequence when she tried to shout seeking help.
A case was registered under the sections 376 (AB) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused.
The judge stated in the judgment that the victim of sexual offences lacks self-confidence and is always under a sense of guilt and denial. tnn
