Rain to continue for at least next three days: IMD

Guwahati: Monsoon withdrawal from the northeast may occur on schedule, precisely in mid-Oct, but precipitation will persist for at least next three days, according to meteorological officials. Although the intensity of rainfall in the NE states has diminished over the past 24 hours, the IMD issued a rainfall warning for several northeastern states, including Assam, for the next three days on Tuesday. According to the warning issued by the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), thunderstorms and lightning are highly probable in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Wednesday. The warning also indicated that heavy rain is highly likely in isolated regions of Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur on the same day. The Met office also cautioned that heavy rain is highly probable in isolated areas of Arunachal and Assam on Thursday. The RMC warning stated that heavy rain is highly likely in isolated areas of Arunachal on Friday. Current weather conditions indicated that a cyclonic circulation over the northeast and its vicinity at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists. The cyclonic circulation over East Bangladesh and adjoining southeast Assam, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, has become less prominent. Nevertheless, Met officials stated that rainfall in the next couple of days cannot be ruled out.“Last week, the monsoon was fully active over the northeast, which typically occurs before the monsoon withdrawal. As anticipated, the intensity of rainfall has gradually decreased,” said KN Mohan, head of RMC, Guwahati.

IMD forecast heavy rain in Madurai, Trichy over next two days

Madurai and parts of southern Tamil Nadu are set to experience heavy rain in the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow warning. Madurai recorded significant rainfall, bringing down temperatures and causing minor disruptions, including fallen trees. Authorities are prepared for the northeast monsoon, ensuring real-time weather updates and emergency contacts for residents.

Light isolated spells of rain likely for next two days

Indore and surrounding areas will experience light isolated rainfall and thunderstorms as a low-pressure area forms in the Bay of Bengal. Expected monsoon withdrawal might be delayed due to this development. Daytime temperatures remain high, while significant cooling is anticipated by late October. Fog and reduced visibility marked recent weather conditions.

Heavy rainfall till Oct 13: IMD

The IMD has issued heavy rainfall warnings for Kerala until Oct 13, predicting thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas. Orange alerts have been placed for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Idukki on different days. Wind speeds of 35-45 kmph are expected along the Kerala coast, and fishermen are advised to avoid the sea.
