Agartala: The cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Manik Saha on Friday resolved to create and fill approximately 2000 positions across various departments.
Government spokesperson Sushanta Chowhdury announced that the cabinet approved recruitment of 198 junior engineers through Tripura Public Service Commission. For the education sector, the administration approved recruitment of 1,566 teachers at elementary level, including both undergraduate and graduate positions. The Teachers Recruitment Board Tripura will oversee examinations for 1099 under-graduate and 456 graduate teaching positions.
The cabinet also approved recruitment of 112 special educators for Vidya Jyoti Schools and 151 warders, including 14 female positions. Additionally, 112 staff positions in the jail department were approved with 33% reservation for females, including wardens.
Addressing the media regarding the "Pushpavanta Palace" (former Raj Bhawan) transfer to Taj group, the minister clarified that it remains a proposal awaiting the CM's final decision. "The palace was sold out to the state govt. Therefore, state govt is empowered to do anything with it. There are also instances of royal palaces being converted into hotel like the royal palace of Udaipur in Rajasthan so what is wrong with this," Chowdhury said.
Recently, Tripura's royal scion and BJP ally Pradyot Kishore Debbarman opposed this initiative, with his party submitting a memorandum against converting the heritage property for commercial use.
Chowdhury, without specific references, noted that critics of this decision have themselves converted royal properties and heritage sites into wedding venues. He further stated that while ‘Pushpavanta Palace' undergoes retrofitting, its architectural integrity remains preserved, even if it transforms into a heritage hotel.
Pradyot and his sister Pragya currently operate wedding venues and banquet facilities in five heritage properties under royal family ownership.
