AIZAWL:
Mizoram CM
Zoramthanga has appealed to the Kuki-Zo people residing in
Manipur's hill districts to maintain peace and assured his government's commitment to assisting the neighbouring state's tribal community that has been hit by ongoing ethnic clashes.
Tribal leaders from Manipur's Tengnoupal district visited Zoramthanga, during which he enquired about their challenges and emphasised the importance of adhering to a non-violent approach.
At a recent meeting held in his Aizawl office, Zoramthanga highlighted the repair of roads connecting Mizoram to Manipur's hill areas and pledged the government's dedication to maintaining these routes, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of essential goods to the troubled tribal regions that have no access to Imphal for supplies because of the clashes since May 3.
The CM also expressed optimism about the recently approved helicopter services between Aizawl and Churachandpur, the headquarters of a hill district by the same name, anticipating that this development would help address various issues faced by the tribal community, particularly concerning medical emergencies.
Prior to this meeting, several prominent figures, including tribal legislators from Manipur, representatives of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum, the Zomi Council, and other key stakeholders, had met Zoramthanga. They had expressed their appreciation to the people of Mizoram for their solidarity and support towards the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur.
