BIJAPUR: New superintendent of police, K V Shridhar, in his first press conference said: "I will stress more on public-friendly police, which will help in solving problems." He said, there will be interactions with the public to hear problems they faced at each station level, including mohalla meetings regularly to detect crimes in the area.
The number if police personnel will increase with proportion to the population of the people, he said, adding that number of check points will also be increased.
Shridhar said that he has plans to improve city traffic, which will be implemented stage by stage, due to the shortage of staff and other basic facilities. To compensate for the shortage, 86 police personnel need to be trained he said.
In the past three, months there were 15 murders reported in the district, of which 13 cases are under investigation and two cases chargesheeted. There are 34 theft cases and 23 rape cases registered in the district and 23 SC/ST atrocity cases also registered and in this regard 69 persons have been arrested, he explained.
Overall articles worth Rs 16,79,350 have been stolen in the thefts, of which articles valued at Rs 4,74,750 were seized by the police, he said. After an order from the court, the stolen articles will be returned to parties concerned, he said. Various courts of the district heard 220 cases and have announced their decision, and after enquiry, 31 cases were settled mutually, he explained.
