HYDERABAD: A couple was arrested by RGI Airport police on October 4 for kidnapping a 5-months-old girl, with an alleged intention to put her for sale. In fact, this is the second incident of baby abduction in
Cyberabad in the last 10 days.
Deputy Commissioner of police (Shamshabad) PV Padmaja in a press note said that Hamsamma and her husband G
Chandrakanth were arrested and the 5-months old girl was rescued at Vinayak colony, Mailardevpally.
According to police, on September 29, the baby girl was abducted by Hamsamma and Chandrakanth, a cab driver, by diverting the attention of the baby’s aunty Vijaya near a shop. After the baby’s parents lodged a complaint, Cyberabad police started the investigation.
Officials during the probe came to know that Elizebeth Rani and Vijaya are two sisters and Rani has recently adopted Shaini, who is actually biological daughter of Mohan and Jyothi Maheshwaram, who allowed Rani to adopt Shaini due to their poverty.
The accused, Hamsamma, who is a resident of Kapugudda in Shamshabad, knew Rani as they resided in the same colony. Sometime back Hamsamma visited Rani’s house, saw the baby and it was during the discussion the accused came to know that Rani’s family adopted the girl.
"Hamsamma asked victim’s family to give the girl to her so that she can adopt the baby since Hamsamma after getting married to Chandrakanth, could not give birth to children. However, Rani and her family refused to give Shaini," DCP said.
Police said that Hamsamma and Chandrakanth hatched a conspiracy and were waiting for an opportunity to abduct the girl. On September 29, in the pretext of helping the victim’s family in consulting a nurse for the sake of baby, Hamsamma took the baby along with Vijaya to a near by shop. By diverting the attention of the Viyaya, the baby was taken away with the help of Chandrakanth, who was waiting on a bike near by.
The officials said that based on the information about the location of Hamsamma and Chandrakanth, the couple were traced at Vinayak colony and were arrested. Hamsamma who had 2 children from her first marriage to Anjaiah, had parted ways with the accused. Later, she married Chandrakanth. "The couple planned to either put the girl for sale or adopt her by themselves," police said.
