HYDERABAD: The Kanchanbagh police arrested five persons, including a jeweller, for killing a goldsmith Dhanraj Soni in Kanchanbagh on Tuesday.
South zone DCP Sandeep Shandilya told a press conference on Wednesday that the accused were caught within six hours of the crime.Shandilya said the main accused Mohd Nazeer, owner of a jewellery shop in Reinbazar Chaman, and four of his friends hatched a plan to rob Soni, who customarily delivered finished gold items in bulk.
The police said Nazeer had instructed his friends Syed Muktar, Md Imran, M A Gaffar and Md Muzzaffar to wait for him at a designated place where they could attack and rob Soni easily.
Meanwhile the jeweller called up Soni on his mobile on Tuesday afternoon and asked him to get as many jewellery designs as possible as some prospective buyers were waiting at his shop. When Soni arrived, Nazeer told him that the interested party was waiting for them at Hafeezbabanagar-Balapur road.
Soni accompanied Nazeer to the scheduled place. As they neared the area, within Kanchanbagh police station, Nazeer got down his motorcycle to supposedly answer nature’s call. As soon as he left, his friends attacked Soni with a sword, dagger and a sickle and injured him seriously. The culprits then collected jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh and fled.
The police, who rushed to the scene after being alerted by some passersby, shifted a profusely-bleeding Soni to a private hospital and later to OGH,where he was declared brought dead.The weapons used in the murder, three two-wheelers and the stolen jewellery have all been recovered.
