Overnight shrine raises cops' suspicion

<div class="section0"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-size:="">HYDERABAD: Until a few days ago, there was a rather small structure with a stone idol on the broad pavement outside Hyderabad Public School at Begumpet. Suddenly, in less than 10 days, it is shaping out into a proper religious structure.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">Realising that this structure could hamper free flow of traffic, civic authorities and traffic police officers suddenly got into some sort of an act—they took several pictures of the new structure.The pictures will be submitted to ‘authorities concerned'' for their perusal.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">A senior official of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) town planning wing also paid a visit to the site. A mall is coming up in an open space next to the structure. On the other side of the open space is a petrol bunk.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">Additional commissioner of police, traffic, Tejdeep Kaur Menon said it appeared that the religious structure was being used as a front for perhaps a bigger commercial purpose.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">Officials inspecting the site on Wednesday said that by building the structure, the person responsible for it had illegally occupied the land on the pavement. "By occupying this land, the person has ensured that the entire horizontal stretch is not touched by the authorities," said T V Rajagopal, assistant commissioner of police, west zone, who inspected the site.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">He pointed out how stones have been brought for construction and said that it may be only a matter of days before there is a roof on the structure.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">He said the authorities wanted to widen the busy stretch of road, opposite Usha Kiron movies office, up to the compound wall and even push back the bus-stop on the road.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">By constructing the structure, the "faceless builder" wants to scuttle the road-widening plan.</span><br /><br /><br /></div> </div>
