HYDERABAD:
Telangana has recorded a higher per capita income (PCI) at current prices than the national average, indicating superior wealth parameters. The national average PCI at current prices in 2021-22 is around 1.26 lakh, while Telangana’s average PCI is 2.31 lakh.
Not just the state, but individual districts have also done well on the PCI front as per the latest Telangana Statistics Atlas-2023, released by the Telangana planning department.
The report shows PCI for Rangareddy was the highest at 6.69 lakh. The lowest PC1 was in Warangal Urban at 1.30lakh.
Other districts such as Kumuram Bheem (1.31 lakh), Nalgonda (2.04 lakh), Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (2.07 lakh), Mahabubnagar (2.08 lakh), Medchal-Malkajgiri (2.09 lakh), Medak (2.11 lakh), Siddipet (2.12 lakh), Jayashankar Bhupalpally (2.15 lakh), Sangareddy (2.49 lakh), Hyderabad (3.49 lakh), all recorded higher PCIs than the national average.
Interestingly, Mahbubanagar, which was once known as a ‘migration district’ in combined Andhra Pradesh, is now among the top districts with high PCIs in the state.
From 2012-13 to 2021-22, the aggregate average growth rate (AAGR) of PCI in Telangana was 11.8%, in comparison to India’s AAGR of PCI of 9.1% in the same period.
Telangana’s PCI also increased from 92,732 in 2012-13 to 1.58 lakh in 2021-22 at constant prices, and of India from 65,538 to 91,481. From 2012-13 to 2021-22, the AAGR of PCI at constant prices in Telangana was 5.83%, in comparison to India’s AAGR of PCI of 3.84% in the same period.
Experts say that PCI is a definite indicator of improved wealth situation in the state. “If the AAGR is improving every year in all districts it clearly shows that fruits of development have been received by all the districts. Telangana is also in the top three states in the country with high PCI both at current and constant prices,” an expert said.
