Indore: A trailer was intercepted near Kota bypass road in Kota, Rajasthan and 173 packets of cannabis weighing 905.780 kg were seized on Thursday.
After receiving specific intelligence that a trailer with a registration number from Rajasthan would be carrying a large quantity of cannabis from Odisha towards Jodhpur, a team of officers from by Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Neemuch was formed and dispatched on Wednesday.
Surveillance on the suspected route was maintained and after identifying the vehicle, CBN officers signalled the trailer to stop near Hanging Bridge. The driver did not stop and attempted to flee by increasing the speed of the trailer.
During the high-speed chase, CBN officers fired at the trailer truck, resulting in the interception of the vehicle. During this, the driver and co-driver of the trailer tried to escape but CBN officers apprehended the duo.
The trailer was brought to CBN office, where it was searched, and 173 packets of ganja weighing 905.780 kg were recovered, concealed in a specially cavity built inside the trailer.
After completing legal formalities, the recovered cannabis, along with the trailer truck, was seized and two individuals were arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
In another operation, based on specific intelligence, officers of CBN, Neemuch, intercepted a truck along with its occupant on MIT square in Mandsaur district. They seized 117.260 kg of poppy straw from 117 plastic polythene bags concealed in specially built-in cavities inside the truck. One person was arrested in this operation.
In various other operations, approximately 26 kg of opium and six motorcycles were seized, and nine people were arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
In total, 905 kg of cannabis, 117.260 kg of poppy straw, 26 kg of opium, two trucks, six motorcycles and 12 individuals were arrested in different anti-drug operations.
