KOTA: A wedding celebration turned into chaos when a 25-year-old groom was brutally attacked during his own marriage procession in Khatikheda village of Kota district Friday night.
Laxminarayan Bairwa, a resident of Inderpuria village in Bundi district, was leading his wedding procession (baraat) on a mare when he was suddenly ambushed by multiple attackers around 9:45pm.
The main assailant has been identified as Vishnu Bairwa, who, along with 3-4 unidentified accomplices, stabbed the groom from behind before fleeing the scene, police said Saturday.
The violent attack triggered panic among the wedding guests, resulting in a stampede that left several members of the wedding party with minor injuries. "When the wedding procession had barely gone 500 metres towards the bride's home, around 3-4 youths emerged from behind and suddenly attacked Laxminarayan with a knife," said Pawan, the groom's brother.
The critically injured groom was initially rushed to MBS Hospital in Kota for primary medical care, after which his family transferred him to a private hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
The Deolimanji police have registered a case against Vishnu Bairwa and his unidentified accomplices under multiple sections of the BNS, including attempt to murder (Section 109), voluntarily causing hurt (Section 115), and wrongful restraint (Section 126).
"The groom had reached Khatikheda for his marriage to Bhairulal Bairwa's daughter," SHO Suresh Kumar Meena at Deolimanji police station said.
The SHO, who is handling the case, stated that the motive behind the attack remains unclear and will be determined once the accused are apprehended and questioned. The investigation is ongoing, though the groom's statement is yet to be recorded due to his critical condition.
