Kanpur: UP Legislative Assembly speaker Satish Mahana inaugurated the three-day Bithoor festival with Ganga Aarti at Patthar Ghat on Friday evening.
MLA Surendra Maithani, Abhijeet Sanga, Saroj Kureel, divisional commissioner Vijeyendra Pandiyan, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, and chief development officer Deeksha Jain, amongst others, were present at Patthar Ghat.
The Speaker subsequently viewed the armaments utilised by Nana Rao Peshwa in 1857, whilst learning about his valorous narrative, and commended the exhibition.
The festival activities commenced at 11am with dance, Rangoli, slogan, and art competitions, concluding by 2 p.m.
Following a two-hour respite, at 4pm, Kanpur Kathak Kala Kendra presented Ganesh Vandana and depicted the descent of river Ganga on earth. Prince Dance Group subsequently performed pieces depicting Lord Srikrishna and the Indian national tricolour. Ramaksheer Sagar Pune captivated spectators with folk songs celebrating Godawari to Ganga-Jamuna.
During the evening, Vinod Kumar Dwivedi and Ayush Dwivedi performed Dhrupad under the classical music programme. Renowned Bhajan singer Anoop Jalota is scheduled to perform from 8pm. The Food Security and Drug Administration department organised an ‘Eat Right' fest at site, where vendors and manufacturers showcased millet-based products, along with informative boards about dietary guidelines and millet benefits.
