Visarjan leads to traffic snarls

Traffic snarls were seen in various areas of the city on the occasion of 'Ganesh Visarjan' on Thursday.The huge idols of 'Ganpati' and large possessions gave a tough time to commuters on Mall Road and Civil Lines.

KANPUR: Traffic snarls were seen in various areas of the city on the occasion of 'Ganesh Visarjan' on Thursday. The huge idols of 'Ganpati' and large possessions gave a tough time to commuters on Mall Road and Civil Lines. At places like Bada Chauraha, Phoolbagh, Dipti Padao, Express Road, Collectorganj, Companybagh crossing and Katechri Bagh road, locals remain stranded for long time.

The district authorities had ordered closure of schools falling on the route of Ganesh Visarjan Yatra. All the schools situated between Ganga Barrage and Jajmau via VIP Road and Cantt remained closed on Monday.
The traffic snarls started from afternoon and continued till late in the evening. Entrance of the Cantt from Manekshaw Dwar witnessed heavy rush of devotees going for idol immersion. Police was seployed to ensure security during the immersion.
The situation was worse near Bada Chauraha to reach Sarsaiyya ghat. According to the locals, the traffic remain stranded at the Chauraha for a long time. Many people also complained that poor traffic management had led to the chaos.
Similar chaos was also witnessed at the crossings like Kidwai Nagar, Tat Mill, Fazalganj and Jareeb Chauki which remained jammed for long. This was the prime spot and crossing which one must have to cross to reach any ghat.
There were traffic snarls in Jajmau, Gumti crossing, Naveen Market, Phoolbagh and all the prime locations of the city.
