Kerala: NIA court remands ‘Maoist’ till February 19

The NIA special court on Friday remanded Vijith Vijayan, 26 who was arrested on Thursday in connection with the Pantheerankavu Maoist case, till February 19. The court said it would consider the National Investigation Agency’s custody application on January 25.

KOCHI: The NIA special court on Friday remanded Vijith Vijayan, 26 who was arrested on Thursday in connection with the Pantheerankavu Maoist case, till February 19. The court said it would consider the National Investigation Agency’s custody application on January 25.
According to an NIA press statement, the issue pertains to the case which was originally registered on November 1, 2019 against three persons.

Two of the accused, Allan Shuaib and Thwaha Fasal, were arrested and incriminating material pertaining to CPI (Maoist), a proscribed organization, was seized from them.
“Investigation also revealed that…Allan Shuaib was radicalized and recruited …by accused Vijith Vijayan. On May 1, 2020, during a search conducted at the premises of Vijith Vijayan in Kozhikode, incriminating materials including documents and various digital devices were seized. Scrutiny of the data retrieved forensically-…has also yielded details pertaining to the unlawful and terrorist activities of CPI (Maoist) cadres, including accused persons,” the statement said.
NIA re-registered the case on December 18, 2019. And investigations revealed that Allan and Thwaha, along with absconding accused C P Usman had organized several secret meetings to further CPI (Maoist)’s extremist activities in Kerala.
Accordingly, on April 27, 2020 a chargesheet was filed against the previously arrested Allan and Thwaha, and Usman under section 120B of IPC, besides sections 13, 38 and 39 of UA (P) Act.
