One more arrested in Kalady robbery case
Kochi: Ernakulam rural police, investigating the daylight robbery wherein a vegetable trader's manager was stabbed, arrested one more person on Monday.
Kalady police arrested Girish (49), of Kodungallur. The case pertains to the attack on Dec 27 in Kalady. Previously, police arrested 12 accused in the case. After the incident, Girish went into hiding. He was caught from Kodungallur by the investigation team formed under the supervision of district police chief Vaibhav Saxena.
Girish received Rs 4 lakh of the stolen money. He is an accused in about twelve cases, including murder, said police. The investigation team, led by Perumbavoor ASP Shakti Singh Arya, included inspector Anilkumar T Meppilly, SIs Jossy M Johnson and Rejimon, SCPOs Manoj Kumar, Shijo Paul and Rahul and CPO Eldo Paul.
Man held for cyber fraud: Two youths were arrested by Ernakulam South Police in connection with a fraud of Rs 36 lakh through the digital arrest scam. The arrested persons, Fayis Fawad (21) and Asimul Mujasin (21), residents of Kondotty in Malappuram, are owners of mule accounts who facilitated the scam.
The arrest was carried out by a team from Ernakulam South police station under the supervision of ACP P Rajkumar and SHO Santhosh PR. Further investigations are ongoing to identify more suspects involved in the case, said police.
Preventive detention: A 41-year-old man was moved to preventive detention for his repeated involvement in narcotic cases. Ameer (41), of Nellikuzhi, was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act and moved to Poojappura Central Jail. He is an accused in several drug cases at police stations including Vandiperiyar excise range office, Karimanal, Kothamangalam, Kuruppampady and Perumbavoor.
The action was based on a report by district police chief Vaibhav Saxena. Ameer is the 14th person detained from the rural district under the PIT-NDPS Act as a measure to curb drug trafficking and sales.
