KOCHI: Former BBC Master Chef participant,
Suresh Pillai, who is now working with a leading luxury hotel in
Kerala has an idea that could help contribute to support flood-affected people
Suresh, who had launched #CookForKerala, is now in talks with publishers to publish a new cookbook, which will include recipes from Michelin star restaurants. The proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to rehabilitate students, who were affected by the flood.
"The plan is to have at least 25 recipes in the book and all the proceeds will be spent on helping students get back on track.
In the 'Cook for Kerala - Cookbook', recipes of several top chefs including Vineeth Bhatia, one of the first Indian restaurateur to be awarded the Michelin star, Sriram Aylur, the first chef to be awarded a Michelin star for a Kerala restaurant, Srijith Gopinath, the first Malayali to be awarded two Michelin stars and several top chiefs across the world are included," said Pillai, who added that he is currently having talks with publishers who are willing to support his initiative.
Michelin star, a rating system used by the Michelin guide, is considered by many to mark the quality of food and service at restaurants.
Last month, he had mooted the #CookForKerala to motivate restaurants and cooks to raise money for the flood-hit people.
"When I was working in London, there was a CookForSyria movement, in which I had contributed along with several other chefs. It was mainly aimed at supporting children who had been affected by the unrest in Syria. So, I wanted to try and initiate something like that for Kerala as well. And the response was great, even restaurants that weren't run by Indians were willing to contribute and support the initiative. Several Michelin star restaurants in UK has decided to contribute one pound from each dish to the flood relief here," said Pillai, who added that he is also working on other ideas to raise money through food and cooking.
