Fake currency seized, 3 held

Acting on a tip-off, intelligence officers of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) recovered `2,799,500 in fake currency notes from Samsergunj on Friday night. They have picked up three suspected agents of the racket.

BEHRAMPORE: Acting on a tip-off, intelligence officers of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) recovered `2,799,500 in fake currency notes from Samsergunj on Friday night. They have picked up three suspected agents of the racket.
Prabir Bhadra, the district chief of DRI, led the operation and caught Mohammed Sakir Mian, Gita Sen and her daughter Tumpa Sen.

"Sakir is a resident of Char Anantapur at Kaliachak in Murshidabd while Gita and Tumpa are from Farakka," said police.
An intelligence officer said they had information that the racket was operating across the Indo-Bangla border. However, so far, only some agents have been picked up. The kingpins are still evading the net. "We are trying to find out who the culprits are and the route they take. Police are also trying to find out if these three persons have links with the ISI or any other bigger racket," said a senior intelligence officer.
