The governor said, “The model code of conduct will not affect the autonomy of universities and colleges. The state government is empowered to lay down the guidelines for universities and colleges. These will be in the interest of educational institutions and students. Once the guidelines are laid down, universities and colleges will adopt them as their own guidelines.”
Keshari nath Tripathi has always been proponent of greater discipline in Bengal’s academic institutions. Earlier, state education minister Partha Chatterjee said that the government is mulling the idea of model code of conduct for students and teachers. This is an attempt to end the practice of staging gheraos in universities.
Chatterjee on Sunday said, “The state universities and affiliated colleges should abide by the moral code of conduct. The code of conduct would limit the interference of student unions in the functioning of colleges and universities.” Chatterjee lauded the role of the chancellor in his relentless efforts to bring a sense of discipline to students, teachers and non-teaching staff. He added that unions should concentrate on putting up cultural events instead of interfering in the admission process.
The governor on Monday lauded Dr Mishra’s eventful career as an eminent archeologist after releasing felicitation volume – Pratna Bharatam, which was edited by eminent scholars like Dr Noor Banu Sattar, Jeeban Kumar Patnaik, Atharv Tripurari and Pradip Chopra. The scholarly volumes, the governors said, would shows ways to numerous archeologists in future.
