Kolkata: Sumit Mondal of North 24 Parganas set the only meet record of the day on way to winning gold in the men’s Under-20 200m sprint on the second day of the 70th State Senior Athletic meet here on Friday. Finishing with a time of 21.6 seconds, he eclipsed Chandan Bauri’s record of 21.7s set in 2017. Nadia’s Firjul Mondal came second with 22s.
Jalpaiguri’s Shyama Mondol equalled the meet record in coming first in the women’s U-20 200m run with a time of 24.5s.
Anju Barman of East Bengal finished in 25.80s to come second. Rajashree Prasad piped Tanusree Porel to claim gold in women’s U-23 200m event. The 22-year-old girl, representing Income Tax, finished in 24s while her Mohun Bagan rival ended in 24.50s. Swastidipa Karmakar of East Bengal claimed the bronze with 25.40s.
The women’s 200m was won by Burdwan district’s Tumpa Mahato in 25s while Jasmina Khatun of Police Athletic Club came second in 25.5s.
Uchchaal Kumar Roy of Nadia cleared 2.07m to win gold in men’s U-23 high jump while Biswajit Ghosh of Malda won the men’s same event with a jump of 1.96m. East Bengal’s Jhuma Basu clinched the gold in women’s shot put clearing a distance of 11.92m as Pioneer Sporting Association’s Sanchari Banerjee finished way with a throw of 11.12m.
The men’s 10,000m run was won by Santosh Yadav of Police Athletic Club who finished in 31:22.2s while Mohun Bagan’s Sahinur Molla came second in 32:26.2s. tnn
