LUCKNOW: An elderly couple committed suicide by consuming poison at their Jankipuram residence on Friday. The duo were believed to be depressed over financial crisis and concerns about their younger son.
The deceased, identified as Rama Shankar Tiwari (65) and Savita (60) lived on rent with their younger son Akshay.
The incident came to light around 10am when a co-tenant Seema noticed an unusual calm in their section.
When she went to their room, she found Rama Shankar and Savita lying unconscious. Seema screamed drawing attention of neighbours who informed police.
Gudamba SHO Tej Prakash Singh said, “Though no suicide note was recovered from the site, no injury marks were found on their bodies.”
“The neighbours said that the couple was concerned about Akshay who had been in depression for some time. Increasing pressure could have compelled them to take the extreme step. The real cause of death would be known only from the post-mortem report,” Singh added.
SP trans-Gomti Harendra Kumar, said, “The family could be facing financial crisis too.”
Tiwari’s elder son Ajay who works in a call centre at Gurugram was in a state of shock. He said that his younger brother was depressed since he was unable to secure a job.
