Varanasi: Four months after the sensation murders of all four members of local businessman Rajendra Gupta's family in Varanasi's Bhadaini area, the Bhelupur police on Thursday arrested the main accused, Vishal Gupta alias Vikky, and his younger brother, Prashant Gupta alias Jugnu, for the murder of their uncle and his family. The police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on Vikky.
Gupta's wife Neetu (45), their daughter Gaurangi (16) and sons Navnendra (25) and Suvendra (15) were shot dead at their home in Bhadaini late on Nov 4, while his own body was found in his under-construction building at Sadarpur village under the Rohania police station a day later.
DCP Kashi zone Gaurav Banswal said that the two accused were arrested near Lautubeer temple in Seer Goverdhanpur area. The police recovered five mobile phones used in the crime, SIM cards, and a portable Wi-Fi dongle from them.
During interrogation, Vikky confessed to the crime and said that his uncle, Rajendra, was involved in the killing of his parents and grandfather and he mistreated him and his younger brother.
He said that he bought two pistols from Bihar and mobile phone SIM cards using fake identities. He fled to Patna by train and stayed at Patna, Kolkata, and Mumbai railway stations for some time. He came to Varanasi to meet his brother Jugnu and take some money when the police arrested him.
Commissioner of police Mohit Agrawal awarded Rs 1 lakh cash to the police team and a letter of appreciation to the surveillance in-charge, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, for this achievement.
