LUCKNOW: After reports of large-scale violence in Uttar Pradesh during the block pramukh elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati hit out at the state government saying there was jungle raj in the state.
She also questioned the silence of Dalit ministers in the state and central cabinet over a fresh incident of violence in Azamgarh where some anti-social elements attacked a Dalit basti.
1x1 polls

“There is no rule of law under the current BJP government in UP. There is only jungle raj in the state under which innumerable incidents of violence have taken place and a woman was manhandled in Lakhimpur Kheri. This is shameful. Is this what we call rule of law and a democracy,” she said.
Mayawati’s BSP did not contest the zila panchayat chairperson and block pramukh elections because, she has said, BJP has misused government machinery and used muscle power to highjack the polls.
Referring to an incident which took place in Chandauli’s Barthara Khurd village earlier this week, where some rogue elements attacked a Dalit hamlet, set their huts on fire and reportedly misbehaved with the women, Mayawati asked whether this was the government’s love for Dalits. “It is extremely unfortunate that after so much has happened, the Dalit ministers in the state and centre are quiet,” Mayawati said.
