LUCKNOW: A play based on the life of Devika Rani, the first international diva of the Indian screen, was staged at Sant Gadge Maharaj auditorium of UP Sangeet Natak Akademi in Gomtinagar on Monday evening.
The event was organised by Prabha Khaitan Foundation, Ehsaas Women of Lucknow, in association with Ficci Flo, Lucknow.
The play, written by Kishwar Desai, and directed by Lillete Dubey.
The actors included Ira Dubey, Joy Sengupta, Rishi Khurana, Mark Bennington, and others.
Set in the 1930s, the play traces the life of Devika Rani as an architecture student to a famous actress. Her professional and emotional ups and downs, her relationship with her husband Himanshu Rai, the setting up of the Bombay Talkies, and her life after Rai passes away, everything was beautifully put together on stage.
The audience gets insights into her relationship with her co-actor Najm-ul-Hassan and Ashok Kumar.
