Ludhiana Airport committee enhances safety measures against unlawful interference, bird strikes

Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal led a meeting at Sahnewal Airport to enhance airport security and address bird-strike risks. Officials discussed protocols for handling unlawful interference in civil aviation. Preventative measures, including garbage removal, tree pruning, and a crackdown on illegal truck parking, were ordered to mitigate bird-strike hazards. Road repairs were also directed to improve airport access.

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana deputy commissioner Jitendra Jorwal on Monday presided over a meeting of the Aerodrome Committee and the Airport Environment Management Committee at Sahnewal Airport.
Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Kritika Goyal and Airport Director Pankaj Kumar, Jorwal conducted detailed discussions regarding the responsibilities of various stakeholders to ensure adequate preparedness and a responsive system during the event of unlawful interference in civil aviation. During the meeting, chief security officer Deepak Parashar provided a briefing to all members and stakeholders on the protocols for addressing unlawful interference.
Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner discussed several preventative measures to avert potential incidents due to bird hits during aircraft landings and take-offs, consulting with officials from the Airport Authority of India, the Municipal Corporation, the Forest Department, the Rural Development Department, and local Panchayats.
Jorwal instructed officials to remove the garbage dumps immediately as birds are attracted to the area due to dumps and overgrown trees. He also directed the Forest department to prune any tree branches that are falling on the approach roads to the airport.
Furthermore, he ordered the traffic police to initiate a crackdown on illegal parking of trucks on the roads leading to the airport.
The Mandi Board has also been instructed to repair the approach roads to improve access to the airport.
