Tirunelveli: Child among five killed in car-truck collision

Five people, including a three-year-old child, were killed in an accident involving a car and a truck. The accident took place on the Tirunelveli to Tenkasi road on Tuesday morning.

TIRUNELVELI: Five people, including a three-year-old child, were killed in an accident involving a car and a truck. The accident took place on the Tirunelveli to Tenkasi road on Tuesday morning.
The victims, hailing from KTC Nagar neary Tirunelveli city were part or a wedding party and were heading to buy meat for the post-marriage celebrations of their relative, Mahesh, which took place on Monday.

The victims were identified as P Murugan, 52, J Niranjan Kumar, 28, M Rajasekar, 35, his daughter Thanika and Natarajan.
The four men were getting ready to buy the meat when the girl insisted on joining them. They were heading to Adaikalapattanam when the empty truck was proceeding to Tirunelveli after unloading liquor bottles at Tenkasi. K Ganesh Kumar, 26, of Cuddalore district was driving the lorry.
Both vehicles were near Alangulam when the car went to the right side of the road and collided head-on against the truck around 6.30am. The front portion of the car was mangled after hitting the truck, leaving all five occupants dead.
Police and rescue personnel had difficulty in retrieving the bodies as they were stuck in the vehicle. The bodies were sent to the Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
