Mangaluru: Congress in Dakshina Kannada is all set to open Indira Seva Kendras and citizen service centres, across the district soon, to help beneficiaries enrol for the five guarantee schemes that the government rolled out in the state.
The first Indira Seva Kendra was opened at Urwa Store in Derebail ward of Mangaluru city on Sunday. District Congress Committee president K

“Indira Seva Kendras will function as an information and facilitation centre for the five guarantee schemes of the government - Shakti scheme (free travel for women and transgenders on state-run buses), Anna
Bhagya (free rice), Gruha
Jyothi (free power), Gruha Lakshmi (monthly grant of Rs 2,000 for women heads of families) and Yuva Nidhi (monthly cash assistance to unemployed graduates and diploma holders). More centres will be opened in Mangaluru city and rural areas of the district soon,” he added.
Former mayor and corporator M Shashidhar Hegde said that Indira Seva Kendras will be opened in 38 wards of the MCC. “The DCC will decide on locations for the centres to be opened in rural areas of the district. This is perhaps, the first time in the state that the party has taken the initiative to set up centres to help people avail benefits of the government schemes. Women, who want to apply for Gruha Lakshmi scheme, may visit the centres with the necessary documents including
Aadhaar Card, bank account passbook and photos. Our volunteers will help applicants to submit applications online,” he said.
KPCC vice-president Ivan D’Souza said that the party will coordinate with the officials of the respective departments that are implementing the schemes. “All eligible beneficiaries may make use of the facility to get information as well as to enrol for the schemes,” he added.
