Impose President’s rule in WB: VHP
Mangaluru: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) submitted a memorandum to the President of India seeking President's rule in West Bengal, following violence in the state in connection with the enactment of the Waqf Amendment Act.
VHP district president HK Purushotham, in a memorandum submitted to the President through the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday, stated that the law and order powers in West Bengal should be handed over to the Union home ministry.
"In the name of protest against the Waqf Amendment Act, parts of West Bengal are being burnt and Hindus tortured. The violence that began in Murshidabad is likely to spread to all parts of the state. The govt machinery is not only inactive, but also seems to be working in favour of those who resort to violence. The central govt should immediately take control over the administration and punish the anti-national forces before the situation goes out of hand," he stated.
Purushotham noted that over 500 Hindu families were forced to migrate from Murshidabad due to the violence. "Instead of visiting those Hindu families, chief minister Mamata Banerjee has met leaders who were responsible for the violence," he alleged.
Stating that national security is at stake in West Bengal, the VHP leader alleged that infiltrators from Bangladesh have been obtaining Aadhaar cards. Demanding a thorough investigation into the violence through the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the VHP urged the President to initiate prompt action to protect the integrity of the nation.
