Mangaluru: Leader of opposition in legislative council B K Hariprasad alleged that students in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are being brainwashed, by sowing the seeds of hatred in the name of religion and nationalism in them. “It has resulted in the collapse in rankings of the districts in examinations,’’ he said.
The
Congress leader was speaking at the felicitation organised by the Muslim Central Committee, on being elected as the opposition leader of the council, here on Tuesday.
“Coastal districts would secure top positions in the SSLC and PU results earlier, however, fake nationalists have been misleading students, and the region is losing its significance in the field of education. There is a need to give more emphasis to education, so that the region retains its position in exam rankings,” he said.
He equated attacks on minorities and Dalits in the nation, to attacks on the Constitution. “The Constitution has given equal rights to every citizen of the nation. Hence, injustice meted out to any citizen is depriving them of their rights,” he said.
“Freedom fighters like Ashfaqulla Khan have fought against the British, without seeking an apology, and were sentenced to death by hanging. Activists from all religions were part of the Indian Independence movement,” he said.
