Ahead of Maharashtra polls, boost to Devendra Fadnavis' security cover; ex-Force One personnel deployed

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra police have increased the security of deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. Fadnavis currently has 'Z plus' security provided by the Special Protection Unit (SPU) of Maharashtra police.

An official announced on Friday that ex-Force One personnel, who are now part of the SPU, have been assigned to Fadnavis's security detail.

The official stated, "As a precautionary measure and taking into consideration any possible threat, we have changed the personnel guarding Deputy CM Fadnavis. Personnel who had earlier served in Force One (an elite commando unit of the state police) and are now attached to SPU have been placed in his security detail."

There is no specific threat to Fadnavis at present, and this move is a precaution based on a security review.
