MUMBAI: NCP president
Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said that though his party disagrees with the demand for a JPC probe into allegations made against the Adani Group, "if our friends in opposition are demanding such a probe, then for the sake of unity in the opposition we will not oppose the proposal."
"We will ensure that the stand taken by NCP will not harm opposition unity," Pawar told the Marathi news channel ABP Maza.
In an interview to NDTV, Pawar had strongly opposed the demand for a JPC probe into the Adani scam.
Pawar's contention was that the entire exercise would be futile as the JPC would have a majority of NDA members. Instead of JPC, a Supreme Court-monitored probe would be a better option, he had said. Pawar's opinion invited strong reactions.
His political rival and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan of the Congress had said on Monday that Pawar's contention was baseless. "JPC is the only committee which can probe the scam. In the past, the JPC had successfully probed the Harshad Mehta, Ketan Parekh and pesticides scams, Chavan had pointe dout.
