Mumbai: The Elephanta Islands off the city's eastern coast, the Alibaug Fort, Kunakeshwar, Matheran hill station, the historic Raigad, Pratapgad and Sinhagad forts, and Mahabaleshwar hill station will soon get aerial ropeways.
The state government announced on Wednesday a comprehensive list of ropeways to be constructed in Maharashtra in collaboration with the National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a subsidiary of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) under the Union transport ministry.
The selected contractors will be allotted land on a 30-year lease, while state agencies such as PWD will maintain equity partnership in all projects, sharing in both investment and revenue.
Additional destinations chosen for ropeway development include Khandoba Nimgaon in Khed, Jejuri, Sajjangad, Kaans valley, Ajinkyatara fort, Thoseghar waterfalls, Uttareshwar temple in Mahabaleshwar, and Renuka temple in Nanded.
