MUMBAI: The four
Shiv Sena corporators who remained absent during the voting on meat ban in the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) have been issued show cause notices by the party.
The BJP won the meat ban proposal by two votes after the Sena corporators Prashant Dalvi, Harishchandra Aamgaonkar, Prabhakar Mhatre and Subhangi Kothian left the civic house minutes before the voting began on September 4.
The ruling BJP succeeded in implementing an eight-day ban on sale of meat in the region during Paryushan from September 10 to 17. Till last year, meat sale was banned on two days during the fasting period.
Sena MLA from Ovala Majiwada (Thane) Pratap Sarnaik told TOI that the party Executive President
Uddhav Thackeray has issued show cause notices to the four corporators. Sena is the alliance partner of the BJP in the MBMC.
On Monday, Sarnaik along with meat sellers met civic chief Achyut Hange demanding lifting of the ban. Sarnaik said that the two-day ban by the state was being followed by all. He said that there is no need to ban meat on additional days.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders also met Hange. They termed the eight-day ban as unconstitutional.
The ban on meat sale begins on September 10.
