MYSURU: MLAs G T Devegowda and M K Somashekar assured people that they will take steps for the development of Lingabudi and other lakes in the city. They were speaking at a campaign 'Namoora Kere Ulisi' (save lakes of our city) launched by Vijay Karnataka, a sister publication of TOI, on Saturday.
Appreciating the campaign taken up by the Kannada daily, Devegowda said that he will hold a meeting with officials to prepare an action plan to rejuvenate and develop lakes.
"Muda is responsible for the present situation of Lingabudhi lake. The civic body had given permission to private layouts to come up near the lake. The sewage generated from these layouts are released to the lake, polluting it completely. In order to protect lakes, we are planning to hand over the development of water bodies to private companies like Infosys, Wipro and other companies under CSR initiative. I will conduct a meeting with officials, and direct them to submit a report in three months," he said.
MCC officer Subramanya said that the corporation is setting up Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) at five lakes, including Lingabudi, Dalvoy and Karanji lakes. They will also be fenced to prevent any encroachments.
