Mysuru: Additional deputy commissioner P Shivaraju on Friday said the district administration will celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava on a grand scale on Nov 1.
Chairing a preliminary meeting to discuss preparations for the festival, he said district minister HC Mahadevappa will launch the celebrations by hoisting the Kannada flag and paying floral tributes to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari at the Oval Grounds.
A procession featuring various folk dances, including Dollu Kunitha, Kamsale, and Puja Kunitha, will be organised after offering puja at the Bhuvaneshwari Temple on the Mysuru Palace premises.
Six tableaux highlighting the importance of Kannada language, arts and culture, customs, and the protection of border areas will be the theme of the procession.
The district administration will hold cultural events at Kalamandir at 6pm. During the event, prizes will be awarded to top scorers in Kannada optional papers in the recently announced SSLC and PUC results.
Officials will also felicitate outstanding personalities for their contribution to the promotion of Kannada, said the officer.
Earlier, leaders of various Kannada organisations urged the district administration to ensure that all nameplates and destination display boards have 60% Kannada. They also sought the distribution of Kannada badges and shawls to honour Kannada activists and requested a weeklong screening of Kannada films in all movie theatres and multiplexes.
