GONDIA: The Gondia police raided a casino center on the main road and found youngsters gambling under the pretext of entertainment.
There had been a flood of casino centres, ostensibly for the entertainment of free students, soon after the exams ended recently. The police had received complaints that some of these casino centres were promoting gambling instead of entertainment.
Police inspector Sudhakar Palandurkar raided a casino centre on Tuesday night on the main road opposite Prabhat talkies.
The police did not see any entertainment material there but found eight gambling machines. The police have confiscated all the gambling machines along with Rs 80,000 cash and other material. The police have also arrested the owners of the casino Sandeep Rathode, Pravin aka Pappu Sharma, Awinash Namujwar, Sushil Raut and Gaurishankar Rohepwar.
Many parents have welcomed the stern action taken against the gambling activities of casino centres.
