Fadnavis Highlights Shivaji Maharaj’s Legacy at Inaugural Function of Wagh Nakh Expo
Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis underscored the timeless relevance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's governance model, emphasising water management, environmental conservation, law and order, and respect for all communities. Speaking at the formal inaugural function held at Suresh Bhat Auditorium, he highlighted the state govt's commitment to preserving and propagating Shivaji Maharaj's legacy among the younger generations.
Fadnavis urged schools and educational institutions to ensure that students visit the exhibition. "The Wagh Nakh, an enduring symbol of Maharashtra's valour, has been brought back after relentless efforts. Initially exhibited in Satara, thousands of students and citizens from Western Maharashtra experienced this historic legacy. Now, it is Vidarbha's turn, and we must ensure that maximum students witness this artefact," he said.
He further highlighted that Shivaji Maharaj laid the foundation for India's sovereignty by resisting invasions and safeguarding the nation's culture, language, and traditions. "The independence we enjoy today traces its roots to the fortitude and vision of Shivaji Maharaj," he added.
Cultural affairs minister Ashish Shelar reiterated the department's objective of bringing Maharashtra's glorious history to the masses. "The exhibition of the Wagh Nakh is part of our larger endeavour to keep the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj alive. Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ‘Virasat se Vikas' (Development through Heritage), we are dedicated to preserving and promoting our cultural wealth," Shelar said.
A special commemorative postal stamp dedicated to the Wagh Nakh was unveiled during the event, marking the historical significance of the occasion. In addition, a booklet titled ‘Shivkaleen Shastra' was launched, providing insights into the weaponry used during Shivaji Maharaj's era.
The event commenced with an introduction by additional chief secretary Vikas Kharge and was conducted by actor Prasad Oak. Tejas Garge, director of directorate of archaeology and museums, delivered the vote of thanks.
With the historic Wagh Nakh now accessible to the people of Vidarbha, the exhibition is set to inspire thousands and instil a deeper understanding of Maharashtra's proud heritage.
