Father of Two Rapes Divorcee Colleague on Pretext of Marriage in Wathoda
Nagpur: A 33-year-old father of two was arrested by Wathoda police for allegedly raping a 25-year-old divorcee under the pretext of marriage. The accused, Ashish Arun Mahurkar, a cook by profession and a resident of Ramana Maroti, Nandanvan, was taken into custody after the woman filed a complaint alleging that he deceived her with false promises of marriage.
Both the accused and the complainant were colleagues at a hotel on Ring Road at Wathoda, where Mahurkar worked as a cook and the woman as a waitress. They developed a romantic relationship during their time working together.
According to the complaint, the relationship began around September 2024 and continued until April 2025. During this time, Mahurkar allegedly assured the woman he would marry her and engaged in repeated sexual relations with her. The woman, who left her husband some time ago and was living alone in Wathoda, trusted Mahurkar's promise. Her mother lives separately in Pardi.
The situation escalated when the woman became pregnant and confronted Mahurkar about marriage. It was then that he reportedly refused.
Feeling betrayed, the woman approached Wathoda police. Based on her complaint, police registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which criminalises sexual intercourse obtained through deception, such as false promises of marriage.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather further evidence. This case has once again brought attention to the abuse of trust in romantic relationships and the serious legal consequences of sexual deceit.
