YAVATMAL: Acting on a tip off, the local crime branch sleuths raided a room on Jamb Road in Wadgaon locality of the city on Tuesday night and nabbed 27 gamblers, including a juvenile offender, hailing from Amravati, Wardha and Yavatmal districts.
A criminal offence under relevant sections of IPC and other laws has been registered at Yavatmal rural police station.
Those arrested included a member of Amravati Municipal Corporation, Abdul Wasim Abdul Majid, and former Yavatmal ZP member Pravin Babarao Uike, a resident of Bhambraja village in Yavatmal district.
Cops seized cash ₹11.7 lakh, 25 mobiles, 10 two-wheelers and three four-wheelers, together worth Rs40 lakh.
"Since the gambling den was being operated on the farm of one Sanjay Langote, he will also be booked," LCB chief Pradeep Pardeshi told TOI on Wednesday.
There is a spurt in gambling, matka and cricket betting activities in the city. "I have instructed all the police station officers to curb such illegal activities," said SP Pavan Bansod.
