Goon killed in full public view at Jagnade Square, killers on the run
Nagpur: A rivalry stretching back to an assault around a month ago led to a gory murder in full public view at Jagnade Chowk on Thursday, where goon Nitesh Dupare was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants. Based on past history, the cops have launched a manhunt for Yash Goswami and Vickey Satpute, though their roles in the murder are yet to be established.
The murder triggered panic among onlookers at the busy Jagnade Chowk, which witnesses heavy vehicular movement during office hours. The unidentified assailants escaped from the spot soon after Dupare collapsed on the road with multiple stab injuries.
Police said Dupare had a fight with Satpute and Goswami, who stayed in the same neighbourhood in Gangabai Ghat area, on March 24, over hurling abuses at each other following a dispute over congesting the lane by sitting outside their houses. Dupare, having four assault cases in the past, stabbed Satpute during the fight in which Goswami, who is facing a past murder case, was also involved. A non-cognizable offence was registered against Satpute and Goswami too at that time.
Sources said Dupare, who is learnt to be an addict, worked as a security guard under a private employer. He was intercepted by the unidentified assailants and repeatedly stabbed, leading to his death. Sources said Dupare and his mother were known to frequently visit Kotwali police station to lodge frivolous complaints.
Zonal DCP Mahak Swami said they are trying to zero in on the assailants. "We are still considering Satpute and Goswami as the suspects while keeping other options open. The prima facie motive seems to be the rivalry over the assault last month, but further probe is underway," said Swami.
