Hits of Madan Mohan and RD enthral audience

Nagpur: It was a pleasant evening for music connoisseurs of the city as Sargam music academy presented an assortment of songs by the popular and unparalleled music directors Madan Mohan and his contemporary RD Burman. The gala titled ‘Hits of Madan Mohan and RD’ was organized at Sai Sabhagruh, Shankar Nagar, on Sunday.
MV Unnikrishnan, who conceptualized the show, commenced the evening on an auspicious note with ‘Vakratunda mahakaya’.
Singer Gopal Iyer gave a soothing start to the playlist with his rendition of ‘Wadiyan mera daman’. Young dynamite Dhanashree Mandaokar, the 16-year-old singer, captivated the audience with ‘Aap ki nazron ne samjha’, one of the most famous songs from legend Lata Mangeshkar’s treasure trove of masterpieces and ‘Yeh ladka haaye Allah’ put the listeners in a jolly mood.
‘Ek ajnabee haseena se’, ‘Yeh bhooli dastan’, ‘Tumhari zulf ke saaye’, ‘Lag ja gale’, ‘Rang aur noor ki baarat’, ‘Teri aankho ke siva’, ‘Chirag dil ka jala lo’, ‘Deewana leke aaya hai’, ‘Baiyan na dharo’, ‘Suhani chaand raatein’, ‘Zarurat hai zarurat hai’, ‘Ek haseen shaam ko’, ‘Naina barse’, ‘Meri awaaz suno’, ‘Bhooli hui yaadein’ and ‘Simti si sharmai si’ rendered by the team provided a novel experience to the listeners.
‘Bachna ae haseeno’, ‘Yeh jawani hai deewani’, ‘Chala jaata hoon’, ‘Jhumka gira re’ and ‘Yeh shaam mastani’ had the crowd tapping their feet and swaying their heads to the tunes.
Singers Sakhi Sahu and Shreekant Sapre presented the first duet performance of the evening on ‘Chura liya hai tumne’ followed by Ashok Bagul and Uma Raghuraman performing the hit number ‘Jaane jaan dhoondta phir raha’. Vilas Dandge and Priya Gupta presented the final duet performance of the evening on ‘Ek mein aur ek tu’.
Rajiv Yashroy, Shirish Suryawanshi, Shrikant Paithankar, Nandu Andhare, Bhalchandra Sathe, Garima Sharma, Brijbhushan Sharma and Raju Tandle were the other singers. The musicians were Parimal Joshi on the keyboard, Shrikant Suryawanshi on tabla, Vineet Kamble on dholak and Nandu Gohane on octopod. Pushpa Anand hosted the show.
