YAVATMAL: Bharatiya Janata Party has all the reasons to smile while it was all headache for Congress in the six municipal councils elections in Yavatmal district. The results of the election of the presidents and vice-presidents of the six MCs were declared on Wednesday. The Yavatmal MC went to BJP while Congress failed to stake claim over any of the rest.

However, its Democratic Front partner Nationalist Congress Party succeeded in mustering two MCs namely Pusad and Wani while Shiv Sena-BJP alliance got success in Darwha with the support of independents.
The election was necessitated due to the completion of the two-and-half-years tenure of the outgoing teams.
The election of the president of Ghatanji MC could not be held as the high court has stayed the process temporarily. In Ghatanji the election to deputy chairman's post was held which was won by Suresh Kudegawe of NCP.
Nirmala Hatagade and Balasaheb Chaudhari were elected unopposed to the posts of president and vice-president respectively of Yavatmal Municipal Council. Nirmala Hatagade belongs to SC category and the outgoing president Chaudhari was elected to the vice-president post.
Varsha Gandhewar and Dr Aqeel Memon (both NCP) were declared elected to the post of president and vice-president respectively of Pusad MC while Yadhav Satpute and Rakesh Khurana (both NCP) were elected as president and vice-president respectively of Wani MC.
In Digras, the sitting MLA sponsored Parivartan Panel candidates Shyam Patil and Javed Patel were declared elected as president and vice-president respectively while Nagar Vikas Aghadi candidate Chandrashekhar Jaiswal was elected as president and Haseena Zareen Aizaz Khan was elected as vice-president in Umarkhed. Jaiswal has reportedly got the support of Congress.

Darwha is the home town of the MPCC president Manikrao Thakre and hectic political parleys were made to muster power over there. But the outgoing president and an independent candidate Haribhau Gulhane was declared elected as president with the direct support of Shiv Sena and BJP while Nanasaheb Tajne of Shiv Sena was elected to the vice-president's post.
The elections at Pandharkawda and Ner Municipal Councils were not held as the tenure of office of both the incumbents there are yet to be completed.
