NAGPUR: 50 seconds, three steals, four conversions, two-point triumph and a heartbreak for the lanky cagers from Montfort School was the story of the day here at the Bajaj Nagar courts of Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) on Wednesday.
Having missed most of the fast break-points and easy baskets for over 30 minutes, the speedsters from Modern School, Umred, showed some urgency in the last-minute to take lead for the first time in the thrilling final and seal the fate of Montfort School 39-37 to win the DSO inter-school U-17 basketball title.

While the boys from Modern High School, Umred, rallied splendidly to emerge as the best basketball team from Rural schools, Swastika Datta led from the front to help Delhi Public School (DPS), Kamptee Road, outclass Montfort School 25-10 and pocket the girls’ championship crown. Unstoppable Swastika fired a game-high 17 points as DPS girls took control of the things with an early lead and maintained the same for an easy triumph.

In the U-14 boys section for city schools, Narayana Vidyalayam, Centre Point Schools Wardhaman Nagar and Katol Road branches and Sandipani High School CBSE completed the semifinal line-up.

U-17 Boys, Gramin (Final): Modern School WCL Umred (Pratham Baranwal 18, Sujal Shambharkar 8) bt Montfort School (Jayesh Giri 16, Parikshit Datir 8) 39-37 (7-8, 4-14, 14-7, 14-8).
Third Place: St Xavier’s Hingna (Rishi Jaiswal 18) bt BVM Ashti (Shreekar Gade 11) 24-22 (5-7, 3-5, 5-4, 11-6)
U-17 Girls, Gramin (Final): Delhi Public School, Kamptee Road, (Swastika Datta 17) Montfort School (Anisha Sontakke 6) 25-10 (6-3, 7-1, 8-4, 4-2).
U-14 City Boys (quarterfinals): Narayana Vidyalayam bt Saraswati Vidyalaya 40-22; Centre Point School, Wardhaman Nagar, bt BVM Trimurti Nagar 19-5; CPS Katol Road bt BVM Srikrishna Nagar 29-13; Sandipani CBSE bt Hadas CBSE 22-7.
