NASHIK: Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi leader Prakash Ambedkar on Friday accused the Congress of playing into the hands of the BJP and alleged that the party was being blackmailed by the ruling dispensation.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is blackmailing the Congress and forcing the party to field weak candidates against BJP. Varanasi is the best example of that,” Ambedkar said, addressing a poll rally at Wadala in support of Pawan Pawar, VBA candidate from Nashik.

Ambedkar said Congress had planned to field Priyanka Gandhi from Varanasi, as the Congress candidate against PM Modi. “VBA was ready to support Priyanka Gandhi. However, the Congress suddenly changed its mind. It is this helplessness on the part of the Congress that keeps pumping up the image of Modi. Modi has told Congress leaders that if they do not want to be behind bars, they should field weak candidates and allow victory to the BJP. It was this pressure that made Congress not field Priyanka Gandhi,” Ambedkar claimed.
Ambedkar said that even in Nashik constituency the UPA has fielded a weak candidate against the Sena nominee. Ambedkar appealed to Muslims to vote for the VBA candidate and contribute to re-writing the history of Nashik.
He pointed out that five times in the history of Nashik parliamentary constituency, the Sena-BJP candidate defeated the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) nominee even though the Muslims had voted in favour of the latter. “The fight in Nashik is between VBA candidate Pawan Pawar and SS-BJP’s Hemant Godse. The Muslim voters should support Pawar to ensure BJP-SS is defeated,” Ambedkar said.
He also claimed that Muslim youths were progressive and able to understand how the Congress has been tricking the community. The Congress was never serious towards the implementation of the Sachar Committee or Srikrishna Commission reports.
“Muslim leaders are still glued to Congress while young and the progressive people within the community are now joining the VBA and the All India Majlis Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM),” Ambedkar said.
