Nashik: A first information report (FIR) was filed against 10 individuals with political affiliation for alleged extortion and blackmail. The complainant said in the FIR, the accused people told him they had given a complaint application to the police. Using that as grounds for extortion, they would demand Rs 5 lakh from him.
"During Aug 2024 the accused repeatedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from me to withdraw the application. When I refused to budge, one of the accused started calling my wife on her phone. They even clicked a photograph of my wife and daughter and created a video defaming us, which they also posted on social media," the complainant claimed. He said the accused also demanded Rs 2 lakh for deleting the social media post.
Three cases are already registered against the same group of people in different police stations.
In another case, two people were booked for illegal money lending and extortion by Ambad police.
The complainant, a resident of Deola taluka, said he took a loan from the duo keeping his car as mortgage. When he went to bring back his four-wheeler from them after paying back the loan amount of Rs 1.6 lakh including interest in Jan this year, the accused duo allegedly refused. They demanded Rs 1.6 lakh again and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not pay the amount.
