NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to convert its unused 25 mld water pumping station at Old Gangapur Road into a sewage pumping station and will be awarding the work contract at a cost of Rs 3.35 crore. The standing committee of the NMC will be discussing the issue of awarding the contract on Thursday.
The NMC took the decision to divert sewage in that area to Tapovan sewage treatment plant (STP).
The NMC had invited e-tenders from contractors for civil and allied works for the sewage treatment plant in June. "On Thursday, we will be discussing about the contract to be given to M/s Anand Constrowell with an extra rate of 11.97%. Besides Rs 3.35 crore, the extra amount will be given as per the star rate," said a civic body official.
Refusing to explain the reason for the excess amount, he said that what is important is the need to construct this sewage pumping station. "Through this station, we will be taking the sewage from the right bank to the left bank and will divert it to the sewage pipeline in Makhmalabad. From this pipeline, the sewage will be taken to Tapovan STP for treatment. It is a solution for carrying excess sewage in this pipeline to the STP," the official said.
He said though the Makhmalabad pipeline is big enough, it is too full to cater to the sewage generated in this area. "Laying a parallel pipeline to minimise the load on this pipeline is very difficult. The pipeline would have to be from Goda Park and downstream and would damage the park and other construction work at Godavari river, the temples, etc. The best option is to divert the sewage to the left bank that will be carried from Anandwalli village to Gangapur sewage pumping station coming from the upstream," the official added.
