Nashik: The 8th edition of the Nashik International Film Festival (NIFF) 2016 began at Vishwas Lawns on Gangapur Road on Thursday with the screening of Marathi short film, 'Athwan' produced by noted actor Renuka Shanane. She was also the key-note speaker at the inaugural function.
"Nashik, the home of Dadasaheb Phalke, has a special significance for everyone associated to the film industry.
Being here for a film festival is a great experience especially since this is the world premier of my short film," said Shahane.
Aarti Nagpal's short film 'I fought I survived' and Mozghan Traneh's Iranian movie 'Colours' were also be screened right after the inaugural function. The special attraction of this year's festival is the dome that has been created in the premises of Kusumagraj Memorial, for film screenings. This dome is prepared in such a way that movie lovers can get a 360 degree view of the film.
"The inaugural day also saw the promo launch of Marathi movie 'Koti' directed by Nashik-based Suhas Bhosale, Bho-Bho produced by Prashant Damle, and many other movies scheduled to be screened during the festival. Posters of upcoming Marathi movies like 'Mallakhamb', 'Anam' and 'Perfect Plan' were released," said Mukesh Kaneri, Director of the festival.
The first full length screening of the festival was 'Yarro Samja Karo', produced by Dharmesh Pandit. The movie, written & directed by Sunil Prem Vyas, is a family drama that highlights how the greed of the society takes over the need of childhood and innocence from children leading them to a life of comparison and competition.
The festival will see screening of ten Nashik-made documentaries on March 18. Deolali-based photographer Pravin Patil's award winning documentary on 'Godavari cleaning' will mark the beginning of the second day.
The Marathi movie 'Bazzar' will be screened at 4 pm. Noted film maker, Raju Parsekar' movie 'Police Line' is scheduled for screening at 6 pm on Friday. The cast and crew of every film and documentary will remain present at the time of screening to interact with cinema-lovers. Free passes are available at the venue.
