Woman found dead by hanging in Jalgaon; brother blames husband, in-laws for abetting suicide
Nashik: A 26-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Kinod village of Jalgaon on Thursday afternoon.
On the complaint of her brother, the police registered a case against the deceased's husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law for abetment to suicide.
The body of the woman, identified as Gayatri Koli, was found hanging from the ceiling in her house around 1pm on Thursday.
As the news spread, the police were alerted. They reached the spot, took down the body and rushed it to Jalgaon civil hospital, where the woman was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law could not be found around. The police said they have launched a search for the trio.
Gayatri's husband used to sell vegetables in the market. To support him financially, she had taken up tailoring work, said the police. She is survived by two children — a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
Initially, rumours were flying in the neighbourhood that Gayatri was killed by her husband and in-laws and hung from the ceiling as she had cooked food during her menstrual period.
But Jalgaon police said that the post-mortem report confirmed that she died from hanging.
Asked about why she may have taken the extreme step, inspector Sanjay Gaikwad of the Jalgaon Taluka police station said, "As per the complaint registered, Gayatri was continuously harassed by her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. The complainant said his sister was harassed to get money from their parents for the in-laws to construct a new house. Owing to this, she allegedly ended her life by hanging. Our investigation is ongoing."
